High-hazard and regulated sites · Infra Fire Safety Ltd
High-hazard and
regulated sites.
Deterministic fire assessment, hazard analysis and ALARP demonstration for nuclear, defence and industrial sites, where the fire case has to satisfy a regulator rather than a checklist.
A fire case built on an explicit argument.
For a regulated site, the assessment needs to explain the hazard, the potential consequences and the measures relied upon to control the risk. The assumptions and supporting evidence need to be traceable through the argument.
Infra Fire Safety Ltd supports site teams and safety-case authors with focused fire engineering input. The work is scoped around the facility, lifecycle stage, applicable regulatory framework and the site’s own assessment arrangements.
Specialist fire engineering support
- Deterministic fire assessment: define the scenarios and assessment assumptions, examine potential consequences and assess the protective measures credited in the case.
- Hazard analysis: identify relevant fire hazards, affected areas and interfaces with plant, structures and safety functions.
- ALARP demonstration: support the argument that risks are as low as reasonably practicable, including consideration of further risk-reduction options and the reasoning for the proposed position.
- Safety-case integration: develop technical reports and responses that connect the fire assessment to the wider safety argument and review process.
Nuclear, defence and industrial environments
Each sector has its own context. The required assessment basis, review route and document expectations are established with the client at the start of the commission. For nuclear work, the Office for Nuclear Regulation’s Safety Assessment Principles provide part of the regulatory context for assessing safety cases.
Our role is to make the fire assessment and its supporting reasoning clear: what has been assessed, what the conclusions depend on and where further evidence or action is needed.
Define the decision the assessment must support.
Start with the facility type, lifecycle stage and the issue to be addressed. An initial brief can identify the required output, interfaces with other disciplines and the client’s technical review arrangements.
Based in Preston, we support enquiries across the UK. Site access, vetting and information-handling arrangements are discussed directly as part of scoping the work.
Common questions
Can you support a defined part of an existing safety case?
Yes. A commission can focus on a fire assessment, hazard study, ALARP argument or a response to a review comment. The boundaries and interfaces with the wider case are agreed with the client.
How is the assessment basis established?
We discuss the facility, applicable regulatory framework and the client’s own arrangements. The agreed brief identifies the criteria, assumptions, evidence and review process to be used.
