Fire door surveys · Infra Fire Safety Ltd

Fire door surveys.
From inspection to action.

Fire door surveys for building owners, managing agents and businesses. We inspect the agreed door assemblies, record the findings and identify actions and information needed.

Assess the door as an assembly.

The leaf, frame, seals, glazing, hardware and closing arrangements all contribute to how a fire door functions. Our surveys consider the accessible assembly and the evidence available for it, rather than judging a door by a label alone.

What we inspect

  • Door leaf and frame: visible damage, condition, alterations and the interface with surrounding construction.
  • Gaps, seals and glazing: the details present and their condition, considered against the available evidence and relevant criteria.
  • Hardware and operation: hinges, latches and closing devices where fitted, including whether the door operates as intended.
  • Identification and records: location references, photographs and supporting documentation where available.

A usable record of findings

The agreed report records the doors inspected, observed defects and recommendations for follow-up. This gives the building team a basis for planning further investigation, maintenance or remedial work.

Where the door’s construction or performance cannot be established from inspection and the available records, that uncertainty is identified. A condition survey does not create fire-test evidence or certify an undocumented doorset.

Plan access to the right doors.

Tell us whether the scope includes common-area doors, flat entrance doors, plant-room doors or other locations. Occupant access and any restrictions should be considered when agreeing the survey programme.

Fire door findings can inform the building’s fire risk assessment. Where concerns extend to the adjoining walls, floors or service penetrations, a compartmentation survey may also be appropriate.

Our practice is based in Preston and welcomes enquiries throughout Lancashire, the North West and the UK.

Common questions

Can you survey doors alongside compartmentation?

Yes. We can discuss both services as part of one brief, with the door schedule, inspection areas and access arrangements agreed before work begins.

Do missing labels automatically mean a door must be replaced?

A label alone does not determine the outcome. The available evidence, condition and context need to be considered. The survey identifies where further information or investigation is needed before deciding the appropriate action.
